Funeral Planning Funeral Planning GuideDear Friends in Christ, We as a parish family offer you our condolences at the death of your loved one. We know this is a very difficult time for you. We have prepared this booklet to guide you towards full participation in the Funeral Liturgy. The inner pages are used to help the priest incorporate your loved one’s personal history in the homily at Mass. We invite you to select the Scripture readings and hymns that will be used during the Funeral Mass at Sacred Heart. The ritual for funerals entitled: Order of Christian Funerals contains the readings for the Mass. Please select a reading from the Old Testament and The New Testament. Please note that during the Easter Season, the Old Testament reading is replaced by a reading from the Acts of the Apostles or the Book of Revelation. Let us know which reading you choose by filling out the Service Selections page in this booklet. Please select four hymns that you would like the community to sing. If you do not feel comfortable making the selections, the parish organist will simply choose appropriate hymns. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the organist through the Rectory Office 718-821-6434. We hope that the Funeral Mass will be a source of comfort and strength as well as an opportunity for you, and for all who participate in it, to express our Christian faith in word, song and Sacrament. Please select up to four hymns/songs to be used at the Funeral Mass. If you would like to use music not listed here or if you are inviting vocalists or instrumentalists for the Funeral, consult the priest/deacon or organist. Unfortunately, Diocesan Policy prohibits the use of recorded music at Mass.Select Your Music (up to 4)All Creatures of Our God and KingAlleluia!
